Verdun II

Fort Duamont. This is the cover of a 105mm (huge) gun that popped out of the fort, fired at the germans, then retracted.

TGhe top of the fort still pock-marked by shell holes over 90 years later
The village of Fleury, which was lost and recaptured many times during the siege. It is now totally destroyed.
The trees have grown up since 1916, but the shell holes remain. All the destroyed villages in the area still have an elected council and mayor, and these are responsible for the history of the villages being passed on. A chilling place.
