More Rome

St Ignatius' church. Long ago, Karl took us here, and explained that the Jesuits ran out of money to build a dome, and in fact that the whole curved ceiling and dome is an effect painted onto a flat surface. It's almost unbelievable, until you move from the centre-line of the church.

Then on to the Pantheon, where Anne had no difficulty believing the whole building was flat, painted onto a large canvas. (No she didn't. That's not true at all)

  1. We stayed just behind St Ignatius and Andy told us about the dome. We didn't believe him when we saw it.
