Vatican ceilings

We weren't allowed to photograph inside the Sistine chapel, but the ceilings throughout the museum were amazing.

When we got into the museum, we were directed (along with the crowds) to follow the long, long trail leading to the Sistine Chapel. Luckily Anne had her hiking pole, and after an initial refusal, the guard let her, and her followers, walk from the exit, straight to the Chapel. As a result, when we got there, the crowds with their guides were still in transit, and we had about 30 minutes of quite and calm before the Chapel filled up. A rare and wonderful experience.
After entering by the exit, Cathy and I pushed on from the Chapel in the reverse direction and spent the next two hours pushing against a tide of humanity.
Anyway, the ceilings were very good.
It is impossible to cover the contents of the Vatican library, so I won't try. Our night finished with the navigator taking a wrong turn, then the metro going on strike, then every taxi in Rome evaporating. The result was that, after two and a half hours in the museum, we then walked over 30 blocks home! We'd have given anything for a pachyderm that night.
