Versailles, from the inside

We were quite struck by this sculpture, and then decided it was harmless.

In an early queue outside the palace.

Peter in a slightly bigger queue

Basil Fawlty wrote this!

And here is the main queue. Tony commented about reparations, but Germany's revenge is to send thousands of tourists to Versailles to keep the rest of us waiting.

Finally inside!

They paint the ceilings well.

More Germans

I think somebody mentioned the war. A rare secluded corner of the palace.

The Hall of Mirrors.

Anne trying to decide which mirror to look into.

No, the painting is not faulty - it's being repaired.

From the inside, looking out.

Another beautiful ceiling.

As well as being irrelevant to the surroundings, we decided that this Tutankhamen was both hunchbacked and pregnant.

Hotel de Ville, Versailles.

You know how English bobbies all have pointed heads? Well........

Sorry, this photo is out of sequence. It is Marie Antionette's bedroom. The open door indicates that she has just left the building (and subsequently this life).
